Join us in creating eco-friendly bows, bags and gift card holders using items that are destined for the recycling bin!

This event is for youth (grade 3 and up), teens and adults.

Spinners, Gliders, & Projectiles!

What goes up must come down, but good design means more hang time. Come play with paper to design your best planes, spinners, and other things that fly.

While learning a bit about the science of keeping objects in the air, we'll be making, testing out, and tweaking our best paper-made floaters and flyers. Simple designs and materials sometimes make surprising planes!.

Also, check out this list of AADL materials for easy flying projects and other resources.

This event is for kids in grades K-5.

Illustrator Derek Anderson at Malletts Creek Branch

Illustrator Derek Anderson will be at the Malletts Creek Branch on Monday, October 29, 2012 at 7:00 p.m.

He's touring to publicize the October 23rd release of his newest work, the illustrations for Jane Yolen's book Waking Dragons.
The prolific Mr. Anderson is best known for his illustrations of author Lauren Thompson's wonderful
Little Quack books and Cynthia Lord's rollicking Happy Birthday, Hamster and Hot Rod Hamster.
Come and enjoy this rare opportunity to meet an accomplished picture book illustrator. Books will be on sale at the event.

Know More about Hearing Loss

If you find yourself often asking people to repeat what they just said to you, or if you are bothered by an airy ringing between your ears, you will find it helpful to attend this talk on hearing loss. On Wed., Oct. 24 at 7-8:30 pm, at Malletts Creek Branch, Ben Wightman, UM Audiologist, will discuss problems with hearing, how to preserve and protect one's hearing, personal amplification, tinnitus, as well as various assistive devices related to audiology. This event is co-sponsored by the UM Council for Disability Concerns as part of the Council's Investing in Ability Week. For more information call 734-327-4555.

Make an iPod Cozy!

Tuesday, October 23 | 6:30-8:30pm | Malletts Creek | Grade 6th-Adult

Come take a stab at hand sewing and jazz up your ipod, MP3 player or phone. Using colorful felt, embellishment items, and embroidery thread, you’ll create a one-of-a-kind cozy to keep your ipod or MP3 player protected with a handmade case for it. All supplies are provided, and we’ll have patterns and samples to get you going. Feel free to bring your device if you want to test out your design and make sure it fits.

To keep the craft going, check out some books on hand sewing or felt fun. See you there!

Block Printing Workshop

Tuesday, July 24 | Malletts Creek | 6:30-8:30pm |Grades 6-Adult

In this workshop you will create a design, carve the design into a soft linoleum block, and then print the image onto paper or note cards. This is your chance to create something to hang on your wall, or perhaps design a card to send out.

We will supply all the tools necessary, you supply the creativity! If you have something you’d like to print on, or have your own tools, feel free to bring them. Check out some of AADL’s books on block printing for a spark of ideas.

This DIY event is for Grades 6- Adult, and takes place at the Malletts Creek Branch on Tuesday, July 24, from 6:30-8:30pm. See you there!

Final update; Malletts and Pittsfield Branches back to normal hours

After overlapping power outages, Malletts Creek branch reopened Friday morning 7/6, and Pittsfield branch will reopen for normal hours at 9 AM Saturday July 7. Thanks for your patience during these outages and welcome back!
