SnowBabies

It's snowing and the snowsuits are out. When you come back inside, and warm up, review the play with these books for very young children:
Mouse's First Snow by Lauren Thompson
Carl's Snowy Afternoon by Alexandra Day
Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats
In The Snow by Huy Voun Lee
or ... choose from many other "snowy" titles in the online Catalog.

KinderConcert : Music and Motion

We always have happy crowds of tots for our KinderConcert events, when we partner with the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra to teach the very young about classical music. We’ll sway to the piano music of Kathryn Goodson, we’ll dance with Gari Stein and we’ll learn about the trumpet with Jason Bergman on February 5th at 9:30 and 10:30 am at the Downtown Library.

Dancing Babies with Anuja Rajendra

DANCING BABIES will be held at Malletts Creek Branch
Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, 11:00 - 11:30 am.
Anuja Rajendra of BollyFit Ann Arbor will lead the program.
This is an active music program for families with babies and children under 5 years old.

Senegal Family Cultural Celebration

Note: Due to planned power outage at the Downtown Library, this event has been moved to Traverwood Branch.

We can’t wait for you to hear the drumming and see the joyful dancing of the Akanni Omowale African Drummers and Dancers at our Senegal Family Cultural Celebration on Sunday, January 17 at 2:00 pm at the Traverwood Branch library. Akanni Omowale recently performed at the Museum of African American History in Detroit. After the music and dance we will enjoy a traditional treat and then make colorful giraffe collages. All ages are invited!

Support Your Lovely Local Authors!

While I’m feeling all mushy this season, it occurred to me that four talented children’s authors who live in A2 also happen to be some of the nicest people to walk into our library. So Shutta Crum, Jacqui Robbins, Joan Blos and Nancy Shaw, here is a big thank you for doing what you do. If anyone has an Ann Arbor cutie who just needs a good read this holiday season, you need go no further than your own home town!

Baby Bits - Kiss Kiss

Babies love books, but what to pick? Pick a book with a sentence or two a page with words and pictures they recognize in their little world. Ms. Rachel did Kiss Kiss today in playgroup. Songs and fingerplays come from CDs in the collection. Try some of these:
Little Gorilla with CD Deep In the Jungle by Joe Scruggs.
Quack Daisy Quack with CD Tom Glazer Sings Honk Hiss Tweet
Bear and Dog with CD Unbearable Bears
How Do You Sleep? with CD Lullabies With Mandolins.

KinderConcert’s Back!

The little ones love to move to the beautiful piano music of Kathryn Goodson, who joins Gari Stein for a story and creative movement a few times a year when the AADL partners with the A2SO. This Friday, at 9:30 am and 10:30 am, we’ll have a special treat because the talented Arie Lipsky will be here to talk “conducting” with the very young. What fun!
