A great way to entertain the baby is to SING! "Sitting In My Chair, Big Chair, High Chair .... Bang my spoon" sings Hap Palmer in Baby's Busy Day. It's adapted from "Mama's/Papa's Little Baby Loves Shortnin' Bread". More recordings, perfect to sing with Baby, would be Laurie Berkner in Under a Shady Tree; multiple artists in in 101 Toddler Favorites; and Raffi in Corner Grocery Store.

Baby Bits - Beach

Folks ask ... What do BABIES like to read? Pick books with pictures of things they see in their everyday life. They are learning to say words, recognize things they see, and can extend into new places that are related.

Since it is summer now, I choose "beach" and "sea" books to try:
All You Need For A Beach shows kids and activities at the beach.
Senses At The Seashore uses photos of kids and clearly suggests items for all the senses.
Ocean Babies depicts all kinds of sea life.
Raffi's lyrics for the song Baby Beluga have been illustrated by Ashley Wolff. You can sing the song along with Raffi in his CD recording Baby Beluga on your way to and from the beach.

Ms. Rachel did FROGGIES in Baby PlayGroup this week. Try some books and some songs from the following list:
Jump Frog Jump by Robert Kalan.
Sing "Five Green And Speckled Frogs" in Five Little Monkeys by Dennis Buck.
Sing "Five Little Frogs" with Raffi in Singable Songs For The Very Young.
Find other program songs we sing in With You by Gemini, our Local Artists.

Mo Willems' Naked Mole Rat!

Mo Willems, famous for Knuffle Bunny, Knuffle Bunny Too, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog, Pigeon Wants a Puppy, and other books for young readers has a new book, Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed. This is very exciting for me because naked mole rats are the cutest little ugly things ever! Willems' book is delightful, entertaining for both children and the adults reading to them. Maybe you didn't enjoy the Pigeon books, but what's not to love about a naked mole rat?

Remember that Friday, February 6th is the next opportunity to see the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra and Gari Stein join up with tuba player Fritz Kaenzig for dancing and enjoying classical music with your young child at the Downtown Library at 9:30 and 10:30 am.

PlayGroup Sessions end, BUT let those Babies DANCE at TRAVERWOOD on December 28, 4:00 - 4:30 pm. Push back the coffee table; clear out the lamps; and have a dance in the Living Room to practice with:
