Patron Comment: There should be more books which 12 year olds enjoy such as Anthony Horowitz books like Alex Rider and Raven’s gate.

Patron Comment: Due to back problems and general aging, I find it difficult and painful to stand without the “waiting bar”. Please return it. I need it to put my books on and lean on.

Patron Comment: I miss the long counter by the checkout! It was very convenient. Now the librarians have to wait at their computers for me to fish out my library card. Plus, I liked being able to rest my books on it while in line.

AADL Reply: Thanks for contacting the Library. The removal of the long queuing rail and relocation of the inside return cabinet was done to make way for shelving for items on hold. The changes will become more obvious as things progress in the next few weeks. Tim Minick Manager,Facilities

Patron Comment: Since there’s no browsing section (that’s why I checked “complaint”—I really liked that section!), how about putting out a few lists w/titles for people to look at, a jumping off point. I love to read but sometimes gets discouraged going through the stacks. Not just lists of new books or best sellers, but reading lists (by subject, maybe?) of some books you all have really enjoyed.

Patron Comment: I am very happy with the care you take in selecting the artwork throughout the library, especially the exhibits on the third floor. It’s a wonderful part of our community.

AADL Reply: Therisc, Thank you very much for your kind email regarding exhibits at the AADL! The Exhibits Committee makes every effort to select a broad scope of work and we appreciate the feedback that your pleased with what we're providing. Thanks again, and thanks for using the AADL! Sincerely, Terry Soave Outreach & Neighborhood Services Manager Exhibits Committee Chair

Patron Comment: The music while you are holding is repetitious and very annoying.

AADL Reply: Thank you for your suggestion card. I agree with you that the music-on-hold needs to be improved. We have just ordered a new MOH generator module that will be installed as soon as it is received. Tim Minick Manager, Facilities

Patron Comment: Please restore the long waiting bar in front of the checkout counters. I find it difficult to stand, particularly holding books, and that bar was wonderful to lean against and put my book on.

Patron Comment: Why did the brick wall at checkout get removed? It always seemed a great idea and a place to set piles of books while waiting. Why not put it back?

Patron Comment: When printing pages at the computers on the 2nd floor, it is much more convenient to pay for the page (10 cents/page) right there and not have to go downstairs to the front desk. It is easy to forget, in addition to having to sometimes wait in line to pay. You should have a box for payment right at the computer sign-in area.

AADL Reply: Thank you for contacting the Ann Arbor District Library with your comment. I understand your concern about paying for printouts. We do not want you to spend any more time than necessary waiting in lines. We are considering two fixes for the situation you mention. We will not be accepting cash at the Reference desk, though, for safety considerations. In the meantime, if you would like to access the databases via http://www.aadl.org/research and pay for your printouts with money on your L-card or I-card, you can use the computers in the Periodicals Room on the second floor. Best regards, Celeste Choate Manager of Access & User Services

Patron Comment: I tried to bring my daughter her to use the computers and was taken aback at the sights, sounds and smells I/we encountered. Very disappointed in your facility.

AADL Reply: I am sorry that you are disappointed in AADL, but your email is not specific enough for me to address your concerns. It would be helpful if you could be specific in terms of the sights, sounds, and smells that you encountered and in what library location. Thank you. Josie Parker Director
