Anyone remember this restaurant? Check out some of the other names listed under Ann Arbor's Lost Eateries, a section of arborwiki dedicated to restaurants and watering holes from Ann Arbor's past. And if that doesn't fully satisfy your hunger for local history, the image above is taken from a collection of historical signs (mainly from the 1970s) we're currently adding to our gallery of local images. It includes other restaurants from the arborwiki list and many old signs and storefronts from area businesses.

A Chicken in Every Pot?

by Robb

Recently in Ann Arbor there's been an interest on the part of some citizens to be allowed to raise chickens within the boundaries of the city.

I live on a small farm about 10 miles out and can testify that I get a lot of satisfaction from my little flock of layers & slackers (I only get about 6 to 7 eggs per day but have 13 hens ).

In the meantime while the City Council grapples with this question you can enjoy several books on chickens available right here at the Library. You can also read the latest on Judy McGovern's blog of March 18 covering the issue on mlive.com.

Attend a rock concert (of sorts)

by Maxine

The University of Michigan's Basement Arts program is a hidden gem of their theater department. Begun in 1987 in a space no larger than a storage room, the idea was to offer free quality performances produced by U of M theater students. The performances now take place in Studio One at the new Walgreen Drama Center. Their current production, "Mock Rock," is a "riotous evening of song parodies" by members of this U-M student theater troupe. Time is 11 p.m., this Saturday, March 22 at the Walgreen Drama Center, 1226 Murfin, North Campus. Call 764-6800 for more information.
