"Vegucated" follows three meat- and cheese-loving New Yorkers who agree to adopt a vegan diet for six weeks. Before long, they find themselves risking everything to expose an industry they supported just weeks before. But can their convictions carry them through when times get tough?
This film screening, co-sponsored by VegMichigan and shown as part of Ann Arbor Veg Week 2013, will be followed by remarks by Detroit-based physician, Dr. Joel Kahn.
Michigan Institute for Clinical & Health Research 2013 Community Engagement Symposium

The Ann Arbor District Library is proud to be a part of the upcoming Michigan Institute for Clinical & Health Research 2013 Community Engagement Symposium, taking place Tuesday, March 19, 2013 from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. All events take place at the University of Michigan's North Campus Research Complex.
The purpose of MICHR's Annual Community Engagement Symposium is to enhance collaboration between researchers and community-based, nonprofit, and governmental organizations interested or engaged in clinical and health research. Academic and community partners will have opportunities to network, share their research and experience, and develop skills to become engaged and effective partners.
This theme of this year’s symposium The Power of Partnerships: Improving Research and Health Outcomes will focus on the importance of community involvement and leadership in the research process and how both communities and researchers benefit from partnership approaches. Free Cervical Cancer Screening

The University of Michigan Health System will offer free Pap screenings on Saturday March 23 at the Briarwood building 2 U-M Briarwood Center for Women, Children, & Young Adults, Suite B, 400 E. Eisenhower Pkwy. Appointments are necessary and can be made by calling the U-M Cancer Answer Line at 800-865-1125.The U-M Health System Cervical Cancer Screening Project will serve women over 21 who have not had a Pap test in the last three years and do not have health insurance that covers Pap tests. Bright Nights Community Forum: Current Treatments For Adolescent Eating Disorders

Eating disorders involve serious disturbances in eating behavior, such as extreme and unhealthy reduction of food intake or severe overeating, as well as feelings of distress or extreme concern about body shape or weight.
Join us as Daniel Gih, MD and Renee Hoste, PhD, from the U-M Comprehensive Eating Disorders Program, give a brief overview presentation on eating disorders and treatment options. Their presentations will be followed by a panel discussion with experts in the field. An audience Q&A is included.
Grief 101: What To Expect When Grieving

Presented by Arbor Hospice's Grief Support Services, this educational meeting will provide you with the resources and information you are looking for when coping with the loss of a loved one. Susan Woolford, MD, MPH, and Kim. A. Eagle, M.D., M.A.C.C., present information on the childhood obesity epidemic and clinical programs that are trying to reverse the trend. Behavioral and surgical treatment options for children and adolescents with obesity will be additionally be covered, along with the use of mobile technology to enhance treatment outcomes. Information on Project Healthy Schools, a school-based program to increase physical activity and encourage healthier food choices, will be provided.

Dental Screening Day!

On Saturday, February 2nd, the University of Michigan School of Dentistry and the Washtenaw District Dental Society will be providing a free Dental Screening day. This is happening on the 2nd Floor Pediatric Dentistry Clinic. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and will close after the first 100 participants have registered. Children ages 5-12 years welcome but must be accompanied by their parent or guardian.

Depression is not simply a bad mood or a passing case of the blues. It is a real illness which affects not only the individual, but everyone who cares about him/her.
Laura Nitzberg, LMSW, Assistant Director of Psychiatric Social Work, will outline some of the challenges of providing support for a friend or family member with depression, as well as some helpful strategies.
Her presentation will be followed by audience Q&A with expert panelists. This Bright Nights Community Forum is presented by the UM Depression Center.
