The idea of Senior Health has evolved since the creation of Medicare in 1965. The passing of the Affordable Care Act has further changed health care for seniors. Part of the 2013 MLK symposium, this presentation will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at: the Turner Senior Resource Center. Grief 101: What To Expect When Grieving

Presented by Arbor Hospice's Grief Support Services, this one-hour educational meeting will provide you with the resources and information you are looking for when coping with the loss of a loved one. The session will help examine what is normal during the grief process, strategies for coping, suggestions for self-care, and what support is available to you. There will be time for questions at the end.

Washtenaw Community Health Organization is our local resource for mental health services for adults, families and youth. Requests for services are received 24/7. Adjusting To Your Child's Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Diagnosis

If you have a child who has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), then you understand the many challenges ASD presents and how those challenges evolve as the child grows.
This presentation, featuring Dr. Fiona Miller, will focus on describing the range of challenges that parents report, how those challenges change over time, and strategies for coping with them. Dr. Miller is a licensed clinical psychologist who supervises and practices in the Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) program at the University of Michigan Center for the Child and the Family.

Caregiver Support

Interim HealthCare in partnership with Catholic Social Services, Blueprint for Aging, and The Best of Aging Magazine are hosting the First Annual National Family Caregivers Recognition Event on Sunday November 11, 2012 from 2:00-4:30pm at the Senior Health Building at 5361 McAuley Dr. on the campus of St. Joe's Hospital. Mary Ellen Geist, author of A Measure of the Heart: A Father’s Alzheimer’s, a Daughter’s Return, a Michigan Notable Book of 2009, will speak. World Diabetes Day!

The University of Michigan’s Comprehensive Diabetes Center is hosting their 6th Annual World Diabetes Day Health Fair November 10 from 9:00 AM -1:00 pm. The event takes place at the Sheraton Ann Arbor Hotel. There will be screenings for high blood pressure, urine screenings for kidney disease, foot exams and eye exams to screen for diabetic retinopathy. There will be three presentations during the event and many resources available for participants. This event is free and open to the public.

On Wed., Oct. 24 at 7-8:30 pm, at Malletts Creek Branch, Ben Wightman, UM Audiologist, will discuss problems with hearing, how to preserve and protect one's hearing, personal amplification, tinnitus, as well as various assistive devices related to audiology.
