Library Lego League is a series of events for Elementary and Middle Schoolers where they must design, build, and program a Lego Mindstorms robot to perform a specific task.

Welcome to Library Lego League!

AADL Library Lego League

Do you like Lego? How about Robotics and Programming? Do you have a competitive spirit? If so, we've got something just for you. AADL is proud to present Library Lego League!

Form a team of up to 4 members entering grades 4-8, and register to compete in one of three competitions. Each competition will give your team use of Lego Mindstorms NXT set, a computer, pizza for lunch, and 6 hours to design, build, and program a robot to outperform your opponents at a specified challenge! The best three teams at each competition will receive giftcard prizes for each member.

If you're a Lego fanatic, come and show us what you can do; but if you've never used Mindstorms before, this is a great way to learn! Teams of all skill levels welcome, but remember, it will take some smarts, some experience, and some luck to defeat the competition.

Last week the downtown library was the place for the first-ever Library Lego League robotics competition! 6 teams coverged on the 3rd floor to play with Lego, learn how to program Mindstorms, eat pizza, and watch their bots attempt to secure a place in history as the winners of our inaugural event.

Before we get to the recap, a registration update for those of you who may not have registered yet; the July 12th and July 26th Lego League events are already full, but we've just added an extra Lego League event on Thursday, August 2, from 10 AM - 4 PM. Register right here before that event fills up too. If your team already attended an event, please let someone else have a chance, and just wait unil next summer for more lego league. Now, on to the round 1 report....

First-ever Library Lego League Event: Happening Today!

LIbrary Lego LeagueLIbrary Lego League

After AADL staff had fun last week with our Library Lego League dry run, today is the first ever public Library Lego League event, and we are full with 6 teams registered! While the challenge I set for the staff was way too tricky, I've got something much more achievable in mind for our first group of Lego Engineers, and it should be great fun for everyone. Check back here after the event for full details about the first challenge, the winning team, and openings for other upcoming Lego League events at AADL!

Library Lego League Registration Now Open!

Library Lego League registration is now open! Get your team of four builders going into grades 3-8 together and sign up for one of the three competitions now! Space is limited, and it's first come, first served, so reserve your spot before it's too late. If you're looking for a team to join, you can go ahead and register and check the 'please assign me to a team' box, or you might head over to the L3 Blog, start commenting on a post, and see if you can form a team online.

Library Lego League happens 7/5, 7/12, and 7/26, but before that, AADL staff will be doing our own Library Lego Event as a dry run for the real thing. I'll make a post after our dry run with pictures and details of the surprise challenge I made them face so you can get an idea of what's to come. I'll also post final rules here before the event, and as always, feel free to comment here with your questions (or contactus). I've got 8 Mindstorms NXT sets just sitting in my office waiting to see what YOU can do with them... so get your team together and get registered for the event!
