Online Reference FAQs

The Online Reference Service of the Ann Arbor District Library is designed to provide brief answers to reference questions.

Who is answering questions?
Staff in the Adult Services Department at the Downtown Branch of the Ann Arbor District Library will be responding to questions received online.

What does it cost and how long will it take?
There is no charge for this service. We will respond to all acceptable queries on the day they are submitted or on the next day. If you need an immediate response, please contact your local library location. It is not possible to check on the status of a submitted question by phone. If you have not received a response within three business days, you may resubmit your question using the form.

Ask a Question

Whatever kinds of questions you have, AADL has answers. And we have many ways you can ask to make sure you get the kind of answers you are looking for:

Text 4AADL or Twitter @aadl!

For quick answers to quick questions on the go, just text your question to 4AADL (42235) or send us a tweet @aadl on twitter! We'll get an answer right back to you. Response may be delayed between 9 PM and 9 AM. Be sure to use a question mark!

Post your question on Open Questions!

AADL is also a great place to ask questions for the whole community to help answer. If you'd like to ask your question publicly, if you're looking for book recommendations or a good restaurant, or other questions you want to ask of the whole community, post your question on Open Questions and get answers from both AADL staff and other members of the community! You can mark the best responses or answer other people's questions too.

Ask Us via email or Contact Us

For more in-depth or less immediate questions, you can always send us email at ask@aadl.org or use our Contact Us form to submit detailed questions. These questions will always be answered by library staff members who will get back to you within 24 hours.

Give us a call

You can ask always phone us for answers to brief, factual questions. Most questions are answered in 3 to 5 minutes. (We encourage you to visit the Library for extended research questions.)
