This is a time for babies up to 24 months and their grown-ups to gather and play. The Library will provide the space and a variety of toys.

Each playgroup includes 15 minutes of stories, rhymes and songs. Parents/guardians must remain with their children.

Concert: The West African Sounds Of Sunkwa

This event is intended for adults, teens and youth (grade K and up).

Enjoy the sounds of music from Africa!

Sunkwa was established in 1999 and is comprised of six musicians to explore jazz, pop and world music. The group combines traditional instruments of West Africa, like the gyil (ancient xylophone from Ghana) along with percussion, brass and guitar. The music has its roots in Ghana, but is infused with an exciting variety of world beat rhythms.

Sunkwa's sounds fuse world xylophone music traditions from various parts of Africa, a unique combination of ancient mallet keyboard and a modern team of dynamo performers.

Kids! Submit Your Art To Be Juried for the 2014 Kids' Art Fair

This event is intended for grades 3 - 8

The Ann Arbor Street Art Fair, the Original, is calling young artists from Washtenaw County in 3rd – 8th grades to submit their artwork to be juried for the 2014 Kids’ Art Fair (to be held at the Townie Street Party on the evening of Monday, July 14.

Drop-In Jury Sessions will take place at the Pittsfield Branch - You need to attend only one of these three sessions. Interested young artists should arrive with 4 – 6 samples of their original artwork and be prepared to show and discuss their art work with Jurors. Artists will have ample opportunity to show and discuss their art work with Jurors.

Sessions are:
• Sunday, April 27 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm
• Wednesday, April 30 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm
• Sunday, May 4 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm

The Kids’ Art Fair is a unique opportunity for young artists to interact with the community and sell their original artwork at the Townie Street Party. In addition, this is a great chance for young artists to see the jury process at work and to interact with arts educators on a one-on-one basis. The young artists receive individual attention by the Jurors and the positive feedback is often very empowering.

Young artists invited to exhibit at the Kids’ Art Fair will be notified by email in mid-May. The selected artists will be able to sell their work under tents at the July 14th Townie Street Party, which takes place on E. Washington between Thayer and Fletcher and on Ingalls.
