Wednesday May 25, 2016: 7:00 pm to 8:45 pm -- Downtown Library: Secret Lab

The romance of rose is legend in the perfume arts.

Whether worn on its own as a “soliflore” or in combination with other ingredients, rose has the power to bring our senses to the threshold of beauty like no other flower. Rose is beloved across cultures and a well-known ingredient in aphrodisiac recipes that go back several centuries.

In perfumery rose is the innocent and the seducer, something one can smell in some of the finest rose perfumes to date. We will search the rose at this Smell and Tell, and explore the flower’s sensual expressions in food and fragrance.

Michelle Krell Kydd is a trained “nose” in flavors and fragrance. She is also the editor of Glass Petal Smoke, an award-winning blog that explores the world of scent and taste

Sewing Skills Night - Fitting and Adjusting

Thursday May 26, 2016: 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm -- Downtown Library: Secret Lab

This event is intended for grade 6 - adult

Sewing instructor Nettie Tiso will be here lead you through this skill session and to help troubleshoot your projects. This week we'll focus on sewing wearable items that fit properly. From the template of an existing shirt, learn to transform an existing garment into something new and original that is fit right for you using basic sewing techniques. Please bring along a T-shirt that doesn't fit quite right to practice on. Transform an ill-fitting concert tee in to something you'll actually wear!

Do you already know how to sew and want to hang out, too? Bring a UFO with you! As in, an unfinished object that you’ve been meaning to work on. Use our machines or bring your own for an evening of community sewing!
