Decorate masks with sequins, feathers,and other fun stuff and celebrate Mardi Gras!

Create "censored" poetry tonight in honor of Banned Books Week!

Tonight, Tuesday September 23, from 7:00 to 8:30pm at the Traverwood branch of the AADL, come create your own poetry out of used book pages! Using colored pencils, attendees can artistically highlight certain words on torn out book pages and black out others to create unique poems. Participants will also have the chance to affix their work to a canvas to take home. This event is intended for grades 6-adult, and all supplies will be provided. See you there!

Nature Walk @ Barton Nature Area

Thursday May 7, 2015: 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm -- Barton Nature Area

This event is intended for adults, teens and youth (grade K and up).

Join staff members of AADL and the City of Ann Arbor’s Natural Area Preservation for an informative nature walk in the beautiful 102-acre Barton Nature Area.

Learn about native plants and animals, and about the diverse natural features of the area.

Dress comfortably and appropriately for the weather. Meet in the parking lot off Huron Drive, just north of the Bird Road intersection.

Marvelous Monet

Tuesday May 19, 2015: 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm -- Pittsfield Branch: Program Room

This event is intended for grades 3-8

Learn about Impressionism, the style of Claude Monet’s art, and see prints of his famous work.

Then, create a painting in the style of Monet!

Chesstastic is back!

The Chesstastic program is starting up again for the school year on the third Sunday of each month at AADL's Traverwood branch. This program is a great opportunity to meet people of all ages and challenge new players to game of chess in a fun and relaxing environment. Players of all skill levels are welcome: come ready to play and improve! Chess sets and light refreshments are provided. The first Chesstastic for this school year will be Sunday, September 21 from 1:00 to 4:00pm. See you there!

Film Screening: The Michigan Beer Film

Sunday October 5, 2014: 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm -- Bill's Beer Garden - 218 S Ashley St, Ann Arbor, MI 48104

Join us at Bill's Beer Garden in downtown Ann Arbor for an evening screening of The Michigan Beer Film. The film explores Michigan's thriving craft beer industry through entertaining interviews and visits to breweries and venues.

The Michigan Beer Film visits brewers like Scott Sullivan, Ryan Sylvester, Eric Kuhnhenn, Joe Short; Hop growers like Brian Tennis, Joel Mulder, Jeff and Bonnie Steinman; Entrepreneurs like Ben Fleckenstein, Michael Kiser and Stephen Roginson. The Dark Horse Brewery stars of The History Channel’s new reality series Dark Horse Nation are also featured.

Bill's Beer Garden is an open-air venue, so grab a sweater if it's chilly, then come on down, watch the movie, and enjoy a good beer! This event is free to the public.

This event is intended for Grades 7-12

Come volunteer to read garden-themed stories to kids! At the first part of this event, we'll go over some story-telling techniques, choose books to read, practice reading, and decide locations around the downtown library for the main event. Feel free to bring your own favorite garden or spring-related picture books, or choose some of ours to read. PLEASE NOTE: this event requires a two-part commitment, both the practice session on the 10th and the actual story-telling to the children on Saturday, May 16 from 1:30-3:30.

National Library Week: 'Fancy Nancy' Party!

This event is intended for preschool - grade 3.

Dress up in your finery and come to a Fancy Nancy party!

We’ll make and decorate a Fancy Nancy-esque crown and color scenes from favorite Fancy Nancy books.

Join us for a nature walk at Mary Beth Doyle Park Thursday evening!

Some of you Summer Gamers might be familiar with Mary Beth Doyle Park after earning the Park Explorer badge that took you there! This final installment in our summer nature walk series is an opportunity to revisit this lovely wetland area, or see it for the first time if you've never visited before. The nature walk will take place this Thursday, September 4, from 7:00 to 8:30pm. The approximately 80-acre park has a long, unpaved trail that runs along Mallets Creek, which we will be exploring. The creek and surrounding ponds and wetland make for great wildlife viewing. A representative from Ann Arbor's Natural Area Preservation will lead the hike and provide interesting information as we explore the area.

We will meet in the parking area off of Packard Road. You can also park at the Mallets Creek branch of the AADL and walk half a mile east along Packard to the entrance of the park. Bring water and dress comfortably. Arrive a few minutes early to make sure that you don't miss the group before we set out on the walk!
