Description

U-M President Mary Sue Coleman shared the pleasant memories of her Kiwanis experience when she addressed the Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor, April 3, 2006. Because of Kiwanis philanthropy in her hometown, she was able to attend science camp over several summers while in grade school. President Coleman brought the Kiwanians up-to-date on the University's plans for the new Mott Children's Hospital, where in 1922 the Ann Arbor Kiwanis Club founded the hospital school, now known as the Child Life Department. Support for Mott programs is now a state-wide Kiwanis project, in addition to assistance awarded to two other hospitals in the state. The Kiwanians who hosted the president included (left to right) U-M Professor Emeritus Dr. C. Merle Crawford, U-M alumnus Dale Leslie and Alan Dailey, club president and CEO of the Michigan District of Kiwanis. The Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor is composed of 160 men and women of all races and creeds who meet every Monday noon at the Kiwanis Activities Center, West Washington at First Streets. Their community projects are focused on helping children and senior citizens. The website address is: www.aakiwanis.org
