More than 40 artists competed in the 2009 Graffiti Contest on July 17 in the Downtown Library staff parking lot. Joan Newberry, 2009's judge, is a senior at Eastern Michigan University pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in painting. At EMU, she has received a scholarship from the Art Department, was featured in the Art Honors Exhibition, and was presented in Volume 38 of "Cellar Roots", the literary and visual arts journal of Eastern Michigan University.
