Are you a Pokémon trainer? Do you think your Pokémon are pretty tough? Wouldn't you like to know for sure? AADL is pleased to provide an opportunty for the best and most enthusiastic Pokémon trainers from in and around Ann Arbor to come together, test their mettle, and see if they've got what it takes to make it to the finals of the most exciting Pokémon event in town. It's our first-ever Black Friday Pokémon Tournament, this Friday, 11/23, from Noon - 5 PM at the Downtown Library. Bring your DS and your copy of Pokémon Diamond or Pearl with your Pokémon ready to rumble, or try our house Pokémon if you don't have the game. A portion of this event will also be recorded and broadcast on Comcast channel 18 on Saturdays 11/24 and 12/1 at 3PM, so be sure to tune in, and read on for full details!

We'll start out with qualifying rounds in the DS union room, which means you'll need 2 Pokémon at level 30 or below to make it through the early rounds. The trainers with the most wins in their qualifyting battles will move on to 4-player, anything-goes pools, doing a double battle with 3 pokemon. We'll have prizes for the best overall players and the best level 50 and under players. We'll also be needing some Pokémon experts to do color commentary during the broadcast. Also, because the event is broadcast, please bring a signed release form if you haven't already.

As for GT updates, sorry for the delay in the Round 4 writeup... I blame Galaxy (62 stars). Round 4 and full GC details are coming next week. In the meantime, does anyone know what is up with those little bag-like guys that leave footprints and disappear whenever you get too close? WHAT IS UP WITH THOSE GUYS?

Woo! Pokemans tournament! I don't really know much about teh pokemans, but I still have the strategy guides for Diamond and Pearl, so I'll see what I can do about getting down there for commentary duties.

Also, I'm stuck on what game to get next. I just got Rock Band (freaking amazing, by the way), so I'm undecided between Mass Effect for the 360 and Super Mario Galaxy. Any opinions from people?

Gabe and tycho really liked mass effect, although they've been picking nits about it recently. Galaxy, however, has displaced Ocarina of Time at the top of the game rankings leaderboard, and for good reason. It is just mind-bendingly awesome. Get it.

So since the idea of alliances and such in the grands this is my idea to solve it

1)Make the final round only 2 matches one kart one smash. This way you won't be able to clinch a place going into the race/battle and will want to get as high as place as possible.

2)make every round contain 1 battle/1 race
Make it double elimniation.
This way you get the same amount of matches. Yet people will be less willing to make an alliance or let a friend win a race since they will only have 2 events.
So if you have 2 bad matches you aren't elimniated.

Have the people who would normally be elimniatied recieve a strike and 2 strikes your elimniated

A con to this is that it could create an uneven amount of players. Since 32 player could get a strike the first round than only 7 of those players get elimniated giveing you 57 players(assuming 64 players are entered)

each player gets 2 matches a round

If you finish in the bottom half of scoring you get a strike

2 strikes and you are elimniated

i like tp2 idea alot and we should go 4 it if eli says its kool to do.

also i got an idea we have a cage match on friday... last one standing gets into final 4...

Well i decided that i'm going back to basics and just being flare for the december tournaments.
As for the said idea in question id have to say that it is the best idea that ive heard since tommorrow AND the day after that. Knamean?

Any news yet on what's going to replace the Brawl tournament yet Eli? I think that we should have a Rock Band tournament, or, if not enough people show up, just a Rock Band session with open play. Kevin and I both have the game + system + instruments, and that would be schweet. If not, I still may bring my stuff and try to comandeer a TV at the next open play. But I think it would be totally awesome on a projector.

That's a very interesting idea, Bad Driver... I think the finals being only 1 round of each will be great. However, the 'strike' thing is something we can talk about for next season, but it would require software development to make it happen and we're in the middle of other projects. That's why we did the two rounds of each in the past to have a bit of built-in double elimination.

Don't be so sure about who's qualified for the GCs and who has to fight it up through the noobs... full GC details are right around the corner, I'm working on the post now.

Also, Roysters, one would think that it's time to leave the 2006 GCs behind us and focus on the Championship to come.

Was it just me? Or was this year's tournament turnout seem to be much lower than previous years? I made the grands and I only went to one tournament, and no John, I didn't get fourth in team smash, I got 5th in all four events in the tourney I did go to.

eli for the strikes couldn't you just do it on paper cus it's only 64 people just make a list of names and check them
