Description

Kickshaw Theatre, AADL, and Sweetwaters Coffee and Tea invite you to a staged reading of "Lungs," a smart and funny new drama by award-winning playwright Duncan Macmillan.

Grab a hot or cold beverage at Sweetwaters, come to the Westgate Branch meeting room and enjoy an evening of theater – followed by a discussion with Kickshaw actors and directors.

The world is getting hotter, there’s unrest overseas—the seas themselves aren’t very calm—and one couple is thinking about having a child.

"Lungs" follows a couple through the surprising life cycle of their relationship as they grapple with questions of family and change, hope, betrayal, happenstance, and the terrible pain that you can only cause the people you love.

"Lungs" premiered at Washington, D.C.’s Studio Theatre and subsequently has been performed around the world. It was nominated for a Charles MacArthur Award for Best New Play or Musical and the British production won the Off West End Award for Best New Play.

Playwright Duncan Macmillan is an award-winning British playwright whose plays include "1984," "Every Brilliant Thing" and "The Forbidden Zone." He has twice been nominated for an Olivier Award in the Best New Play category.

Kickshaw is Ann Arbor’s new non-profit professional theatre and operates under an agreement with the Actors’ Equity Association, the union of professional actors and stage managers. Kickshaw prides itself on exciting the curiosity of audiences and artists with plays that represent humanity in all its complexity and multitudes.

This event is cosponsored by Sweetwaters Coffee and Tea.
