There's a sort of underdoggieness in the later-embraced once-"fringe" working artist. This book has more of a scholarly flavor than I was expecting. It's a niche area, for sure, but old movie lovers like me might find in appealing, especially if/as fans of noir, indies, and Hollywood & TV history.
Gun Crazy alone could make (and probably has made) for whole books itself. This offering tracks the director's style through a long, artistically coherent body of work, in a notable career that never made him famous.
