Many Passages of Time examines the every-day lives of Indian-American Muslims and common misconceptions around Islam and ethnicity via documentary interviews. Interviewees share their experiences navigating racial and religious stereotyping as well as personal and professional achievement.
In an era when India itself seems at ill-ease with its pluralistic identity, its Muslim immigrants to America strive to build on India’s own democratic ideals in America, the birthplace of modern democratic government. Indian-American Muslims have built up a cultural life that includes religious and community organizations, school groups and holiday celebrations. Later generations, the descendants of Muslim Indian immigrants, have built on their parents’ hard work and success, finding great collective prosperity and professional achievement. Thus taking great pride in their distinct religious and socio-cultural heritage, and contributions to American society.
