After graduating from the University of Leiden with a degree in math and physics, Paul Verhoeven joined the navy, where his career as a film maker began with directing documentaries. After several of his films, including Soldier of Orange (nominated for a Golden Globe) and The 4th Man received international attention, he moved to Hollywood.
