From Sharks to... Swimsuits submitted by SBNB on August 17, 2016, 5:39pm Interesting book. I wish there would have been pictures of the early swimsuits they mentioned.

Good Introduction to Engineering and Biomimicry submitted by Meginator on August 23, 2020, 11:15pm This book provides young readers with an entry point into the scientific concept of biomimicry in engineering through the example of Speedo’s Fastskin swimsuits. The example is a well-chosen one and the text is easy to understand, although the book’s larger thematic point isn’t immediately obvious until the author presents a list of other inventors inspired by nature. The text goes to great pains to avoid naming Speedo specifically; this is unlikely to bother most readers but as someone familiar with the story I found it a little bemusing. As with a lot of Cherry Hill books, the images could better align with the text (they have a very stock photo vibe to them), but they add nice splashes of color and help divide blocks of information into more easily digestible pieces. Overall, the book is pretty interesting and should inspire some of its readers to explore this aspect of scientific innovation.
