Photographs. Ansel Adams (1902 {u2013} 1984) is one of the most famous American photographers. His works feature breathtaking landscapes of seemingly untouched parts of the United States. His photos of nature capture momentary features and vary in scale - from details to landscapes. His photos are viewed as technically perfect and his influence on the field can hardly be overstated. He wrote articles and books about both the composition of photos and the technical issues of photography. In addition, Ansel advocated for the acceptance of photography as fine art. Ansel spent the later part of his career engaged in conservation, as director of the Sierra Club. View South from Manzanar to Alabama Hills is one of Ansel{u2019}s photographs of the Manzanar War Relocation center, a Japanese-American Internment camp. It features the mountains and landscape outside Manzanar. The wispy clouds are an example of Ansel{u2019}s interest in transitory features of landscapes.

Lovely submitted by terpsichore17 on July 20, 2017, 11:28am What a juxtaposition of the enduring and the ephemeral.

Forever and fleeting submitted by FordAlpha on July 18, 2018, 9:16pm Adams' composition speaks to the passage of time--at once stolid and unending, ephemeral and dreamlike--and the confining isolation of wide-open space in this landscape where Japanese-Americans were involuntarily interned during World War II. The gradation of dark to light values in the sky, interrupted by the ghostly white of clouds and abruptly cut by the dark line of hills rising over the dry plain, makes this a visually arresting composition.

View South From Manzanar To Alabama Hills submitted by Varshini on June 18, 2019, 7:26am I like this print. Ansel Adams never fails to please. I like the depth in the mountains in this.

View South submitted by JY 2005 on June 21, 2019, 11:09pm I like that Ansel Adams chose to use black and white instead of using lots of different colors for this print. It makes it seem more calm and peaceful.

View South From Manzanar to Alabama Hills submitted by i'm a blobfish on June 23, 2019, 5:36pm The skies are a little dark compared to what I would have imagined. I like the silkiness of the clouds though and how they stand out on the dark skies. The black and white really works for this piece.
