Great Discovery! submitted by Nancianna Girbach on May 2, 2016, 9:14am Very pleasantly surprised with this new SyFy series that takes place in the 23rd Century as humans have travelled to and established colonies on the planets/moons in our Solar System. There is an interesting interjection of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints that I haven't quite figured out yet, but maybe will be revealed in Season 2, airing in 2017. (Wish I didn't have to wait so long!). It portrays a bleak future for humanity, but the main character James Holden, an ice hauler ship crew member, is the spark of hope whose actions propel the story on. The story cleverly comes from two different directions meeting and intertwining in the final episodes with Detective Miller leading the 2nd story line.
Detective Miller is a now disgraced cop whose supposedly straight forward missing persons case leads to the discovery of a System wide conspiracy which leads the two main characters, Holden and Miller to the unveiling of the first evidence of a system wide catastrophe to come. The characters are well delineated and relationships established for future episodes. Highly recommended.

Wonderful Series submitted by illy on June 18, 2016, 11:07am I was a little worried about the quality of this given the history of SyFy series, but enough of my friends were raving about this series that I thought I'd check it out. I'm glad I did. Well written, directed, and acted. I can't wait for season 2.

Excellent Show submitted by Michael P. on July 26, 2018, 9:36am Gripping and fun! A solid mix of mystery, action, political intrigue, and humor.

A dark SF Mystery submitted by peteralway on July 25, 2020, 11:02pm This is a pretty dark, noir-inspired show set a few hundred years in the future. Full of grim stuff and political intrigue.
The show has a long story arc, not resolved in the first season. Interesting enough to suck me into the second season.

Watch this and read the books too! submitted by oshani on June 13, 2022, 2:41pm I cannot stress how good this show is. The characters and acting are amazing, the world that Corey created is interesting and thought-provoking, and the stories and characters are written very well. The show takes many things that made the books good and keeps them, but also incorporates characters and ideas from later books to flesh out existing characters more. HOWEVER: This series only covers the first 6 books out of the 9 books in the series, and the 5th and 6th seasons have some pacing issues. Highly recommend watching the show and reading the books (which are also incredible) to get the full picture.

Great show submitted by berger_d on July 4, 2022, 2:33pm This is sci-fi space opera as it was meant to be! I'll keep it spoiler-free here, but the show has great characters, extremely interesting concepts, and some of the most reality-based science I've seen in a show. If you react to it like I did, just get the second season, too. You'll binge the first and NEED to know what's coming next.

Great adaptation submitted by bahr on June 18, 2023, 12:28am This is as close to a faithful adaptation as it gets. This show really captures the characters, the setting, and the plot of the Expanse series.

Excellent sci-fi submitted by renarde7 on June 22, 2023, 11:30am This is one of the best Sci-fi shows I've seen in a long time. The science is good, and the human elements are complex and very interesting.

fantastic show! submitted by nemiller on June 26, 2023, 2:34pm What a fantastic show!

Well paced drama, interesting characters, the gradual revelations that build on each other... I'm currently watching the 4th season, and every season so far has had its own distinct arc, but each arc builds on the last one. I cannot recommend this series enough!

Don’t mess with the hat submitted by tarascon on July 7, 2023, 5:55pm Supercool stuff! Great casting. One of the best—as mentioned above.
I love the inclusion of class struggle, the hegemony of the Saints, and the Belter dialect. I can’t think of any other science fiction series that’s played with language and social issues to such an (adult oriented) extent.

It’s as if the SyFy channel slipped into an alternate universe where it actually produces quality programming.
