COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Soooo good. submitted by lfmarcus on August 19, 2017, 4:03pm I just LOVE this series; I've seen it several times. Sherlock meets Downton meets Chicago meets Poirot.
It's written by women, stars a vibrant and interesting/complex woman over 40, passes the Bechdel Test with flying colors, and you just can't beat the smoldering chemistry that Phryne and Jack share throughout the show. Oh and the costumes are completely phenomenal, gotta love the 20s!

Phryne Returns submitted by Meginator on July 11, 2018, 10:50pm Phryne Fisher and company return in this sophomore season that improves on the first season's strengths while dialing back on some of its flaws, making for excellent, easily binge-able television. Phryne is easy to fall in love with, a feminist detective who often outwits everyone around, whether her companions on the Melbourne police force or the perpetrators themselves. Highlights include the development of several secondary characters and the continuation of a certain central will-they-or-won't-they relationship between two of the leads. The show is willing to tackle delicate issues but does so with grace and without beating viewers over the head with any sense of self-righteousness, instead folding them neatly into the show's existing milieu. My favorite episode is the final one, a locked-room mystery that uses several characters' established backstories while providing a neat twist on the genre. I can't wait to see what Season 3 has in store.

Simply the best submitted by wellscai on August 5, 2018, 1:19pm I can't say enough how much I love this show. I love Phryne, I love the secondary characters, and I LOVE the mysteries. The romantic tension gives me all the feels, and the costumes are to die for. The characters are fleshed out a lot more in the second series, and I pretty much binged the entire season.

Love the set submitted by majean on August 17, 2018, 1:05pm The costumes and setting are new and interesting! I love the clothes.

Still delightful submitted by Cloverdale on August 31, 2019, 5:44pm Phryne is back! Still fun, beautiful production values and great chemistry between characters.
