COMMUNITY REVIEWS
One of my faves submitted by lfmarcus on August 19, 2017, 4:01pm I totally adore this series and I've seen it several times. It's written by women, stars a vibrant & interesting/complex woman over 40, passes the Bechdel Test with flying colors, and you just can't beat the smoldering chemistry that Phryne and Jack share throughout the show. Oh and the costumes (1920s!) are phenomenal.
More! submitted by majean on August 17, 2018, 1:06pm Can't stop watching these delightful characters.
Deserved a Better Send-Off
submitted by Meginator on June 30, 2019, 11:33am
After a couple of outstanding seasons, this final batch of Miss Fisher’s mysteries is ever so slightly disappointing, not quite as sharp and not nearly as satisfying despite its best efforts. A few of the episodes are among the best in the series, but the season- and series-long arcs are ineffective and undercut most of the goodwill spawned by the two previous seasons: one main character inexplicably disappears during the heart of the season and the two leads rush toward a devastatingly disappointing ending that is not so much ambiguous as insulting given all that came before. It feels as though the writers didn’t know until the bitter end that the show had been cancelled, and had to quickly come up with something that could never do justice to the wonderful characters and storylines that had been heretofore so carefully developed.
That said, even a disappointing season of this show is still superlative to most television, with a headstrong female lead, exquisite period-appropriate sets and costumes, and a lovable cast of characters with enviable chemistry. Phryne and company may have deserved better in the end, but altogether this is still some very satisfying television.
Still delightful, but... submitted by Cloverdale on August 31, 2019, 5:46pm Not quite as tight as the first two seasons, but I will miss Phrayne for sure.
