My kid like it submitted by TLW1998 on July 14, 2019, 9:08am My 4-year old really enjoyed it and wanted to read it again. It has a good lesson that everyone can have different ideas and paint differently. I just wish that it was longer to further the ideas in kids’ minds.
Good resource for talking about art critique with kids submitted by rea2mill on August 19, 2022, 10:51pm We read this as part of a library story kit about emotions a couple of years ago, and my little guy was just 3 and a little young for this book. In the story Sophie really thinks about her favorite tree and how much it means to her and how happy it makes her feel and she expresses that in her color choices. At 5, I think my little guy might be on the cusp of being ready to re-read this one. I thought of it today though because we currently have “Arlo Draws an Octopus “ by Lori Mortensen and “Amy Wu and the Patchwork Dragon” by Kat Zhang checked out, and I thought the three of these books would make such a great set to talk with kids about expressing yourself through art and gaining confidence as you learn the skills of making art. All kids are artists until someone makes them feel like their art isn’t what it should be. All three books show kids moving past that and continuing to be confident artists.
