Narrated by Donald Corren.
The year 1936 finds aspiring writer Don Birnam living on the East side of Manhattan, where he teeters on the precipice of a yawning, self-imposed abyss. He takes a drink, and then one drink becomes two, then three, until each slug of liquor blends seamlessly into a river propelling him along a drunken, five-day odyssey. And all the while, as the ravages of booze slowly eat away at him, Birnam finds himself shrouded in the notion that he might stop--that he should stop--but that perhaps he never will.
