I Couldn't Get Into It submitted by Meginator on June 23, 2021, 5:45pm Though this film has a fairly strong cast and a really naturalistic vibe to it, I was a little frustrated by the lack of traditional character development and storytelling. The film takes you through a few days in the lives of its main characters, only to have them seemingly end up right back where they were to begin with; it’s almost *too* free of artifice. I was also frustrated by the way several characters punch down at romance novels, particularly because this was meant to illustrate one character’s difficulty writing a “more important” type of novel; I could excuse this in a better production, but here it just seemed sort of arbitrary and mean-spirited. All told, while it has its charming moments, I just couldn’t bring myself to care about this film much; I was bored at many points and, at the end, frustrated that I had spent my time on a journey to nowhere at all.
