Missing ol' Johnny Cash and Family Bible were favorites
Two Old Masters submitted by Meginator on August 31, 2019, 10:47pm This album finds two old masters of country music in peak form, exploring the intersections between their complementary, yet distinct, styles and paying homage to their long careers without becoming trapped in the past. Their influences range from the blues-inspired opening track to classic, rapid-fire honky tonk humor and the type of longing that feels all the more distressing when expressed in a slow-burn country ballad, and the album has a nice variety to it without ever feeling disjointed. The duo’s credentials are unquestionable, and they are as good as ever, offering a direct argument for their lasting talents with a wistful cover of “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right” that adds a new dimension of depth to the classic Dylan tune. I highly recommend this for any country music fan, or anyone looking for an introduction to the genre’s roots; its classic spirit is indeed alive and well.
