Lost in the Black Forest, Otto meets three mysterious sisters and finds himself entwined in a puzzling quest involving a prophecy, a promise, and a harmonica. Decades later, as the second World War approaches, the lives of three children -- Friedrich in Germany, Mike in Pennsylvania, and Ivy in California -- become interwoven when the very same harmonica lands in their lives. All the children face daunting challenges: rescuing a father, protecting a brother, holding a family together. Pulled by the invisible thread of destiny, their solo stories converge.

Beautiful submitted by somewhere.gone on June 27, 2018, 8:38pm I love this book! It's super good, and is just, amazing!

Amazing submitted by c_zhang on June 28, 2019, 2:08pm This book is complex and beautifully written. Several separate stories get threaded together in a great way.

Amazing submitted by IsaGab2 on June 29, 2019, 9:13pm I love the heartfelt stories and how they all tie together the story of the harmonica and Eins, Zwei, and Drei. I like how they are tied together by looking at different aspects of WII (one didn't really but it was good so whatever). This book is really good.

Well-written novel submitted by vjchen007 on July 18, 2019, 8:52pm It is fascinating how Pam Munoz Ryan ties so many stories together through a simple object like a harmonica. This beautifully-written novel is similar in ways to Anthony Doerr's "All the Light We Cannot See" in how it is written and the WWII background, but Ryan's "Echo" is definitely more suitable for teen readers.

Loved this Book! Sad to have finished it! submitted by jgetty on June 14, 2020, 6:08pm This is an amazing, thoughtful, complex, kind, page-turning and fascinating story! It was so enjoyable and interesting. Be sure to read the Acknowledgements Page at the back pages of the book, very interesting about some museums and people she visited for research, especially a Germany harmonica museum reference to the book, very fascinating. The stories were so clever and engrossing, and I just loved all of the characters, and their strengths and perseverance in life. Great book, definitely read this book!

Fabulous book!! submitted by livnatbrody on June 18, 2021, 9:29am This is one of the best books I have ever read. It is so well-written, and the plots are tied together in such a beautiful way. It was very interesting to see WW2 through the different perspectives. I would highly recommend this book to adults and teens alike.
