Read by Alex Jennings.
Kate Atkinson's dazzling Life after Life explored the possibility of infinite chances and the power of choices, following Ursula Todd as she lived through the turbulent events of the last century over and over again. A God in Ruins tells the dramatic story of the twentieth century through Ursula's beloved younger brother Teddy--would-be poet, heroic pilot, husband, father, and grandfather--as he navigates the perils and progress of a rapidly changing world. After all that Teddy endures in battle, his greatest challenge is living in a future he never expected to have.

Good and interesting, great author! submitted by 21621031390949 on July 19, 2018, 11:16pm Let me first state that I'm a big fan of this author. However, I'm kind of undecided about this one. On the one hand, I love the author's historical context and ability to bring it alive in a real way, and I was intrigued by the way this novel fit (and didn't) into Life After Life. I think the author is very creative in her approaches to life and the way(s) it might be.

On the other hand, I didn't like some of the characters in this one - they were too charicatured and disagreeable - and I got tired of them.

That said, this was again a novel I listened to rather than reading the hard copy and that sometimes changes things a lot. It also jumped around a lot in time periods, although differently from Life After Life's time changes.

So, I am less enthusiastic about this book, but still glad I read it, and I definitely hope she'll write more about other Todd family members.
