COMMUNITY REVIEWS

If You Haven’t Heard This, You Don’t Know Aretha submitted by KidBlue on August 29, 2018, 4:06pm Aretha Franklin was not only the greatest Black soul singer, not only the greatest female soul singer, not only the greatest soul singer of all time, but the greatest gospel singer of all time.
This album is both a concert and recording center and a church service.
If you have a hang up about religiosity and church music, remember that this was part of the great heart and the musical legacy of the great Aretha Franklin.

May she rest in power submitted by redwood on August 5, 2019, 8:54pm Aretha Franklin coming home. A must-hear.

Gospel from the Heart submitted by Meginator on August 20, 2022, 6:14pm Aretha Franklin grew up singing gospel songs in her father’s church, and her return to the genre makes excellent use of her amazing vocal power and emotive ability; in every moment it is clear that these songs live deep within her soul. Backed by a traditional choir, the Queen of Soul performs with powerful force, and you don’t have to be familiar with these songs or a practicing Christian to appreciate the deep connection she feels with the music. This is live performance at its best, at once showcasing one of the major influences behind Aretha’s most famous soul songs and providing her with a moment of catharsis and homecoming after years in the spotlight.
