Its a fiction story based on Norman Bates, the hotel owner from the old Psycho thriller. It's about his life before the famous motel murder... They did a decent job and it's kind of fascinating to watch. It sure does keep you guessing.

Season one highlights Norman Bates and his mother Norma who move to a small town in Oregon and purchase a road side motel. They hope to start a new life there, but as the season progresses many obstacles arise. In season one we get to know some key characters, story lines, and some background stories that give some clues as to where this plot may be headed. We can only watch as the events unfold and the family plots thicken, and Norman and his family try to put down roots in this town where not everything is as it seems. To make things even more interesting Norman is having blackouts where whole chunks of time are missing from his recollection and some pretty terrible things occurred while he was out...

the performances of Freddie Highmore and Vera Farmiga, which portray the disturbed qualities of their characters while keeping open the possibility for sympathy. There is a noticeable Twin Peaks influence, but the show finds its own space.
