The sophomore album by Merrill Garbus' tUnE-yArDs will thrill fans of the live show that left many stunned in 2010. No longer is Garbus' artful songwriting and soulful voice obscured by digital fuzz as it often was in her solo debut, BiRd-BrAiNs. The tUnE-yArDs have stripped away to a more precise, more concentrated, more vivid sound. The honesty of the lonely bedroom confessional remains, but has grown the fangs and claws and dented metal of its new surroundings.

Quasi Experimental, Yet Actually Good submitted by Meginator on June 28, 2018, 7:59pm This is an interesting album, at the edge of experimental rock with just enough tweaks to make the listener slightly uncomfortable without becoming unlistenable, along with political lyrics that challenge various forms of inequality. There’s a lot to pique the interest here and overall it’s a very intriguing, unique listening experience.
