the lesser US versions submitted by tisaallen on June 15, 2022, 10:50am This compiles the unique US versions of Beatles albums that were stretched out to create more product and is mostly appealing to Americans nostalgic for the albums they remember or fanatics looking for slightly different alternate mixes of some songs.

Weirdly Specific, But the Music Is Great submitted by Meginator on June 12, 2023, 11:53pm While this collection isn’t essential for anyone who isn’t a Beatles completionist or who listened to the original Capitol compilations back in the 60s and wants to hear these songs in the order they originally experienced form those LPs, it does contain the same songs that made the world initially fall in love with the band (along with some hilarious album titles, such as “The Beatles’ Second Album”). Most of the albums have a scattershot feel to them that undoubtedly comes from the haphazard nature of their creation, but the songs and performances are good and many of the discs include both stereo and mono mixes for serious audiophiles. Though this collection more or less ends with “Revolver” (a best-of/b-sides type does include some later songs), you can already hear the band begin their departure away from quick-hitting love songs and toward more introspective and expansive compositional styles. “The Beatles’ Story”, a narrative essay with a few interviews and song snippets thrown in for good measure, rounds out the collection with an interesting contemporary view of Beatlemania as it was reaching its peak. Far from necessary except for those who have these track lists burned into their memories, the compilation is nonetheless a solid collection for anyone who wants to revisit the group’s early music; the quality ultimately speaks for itself even if the combinations seem strange.
