During her stay in California, Travers' reflects back on her difficult childhood in 1906 Australia.

Wonderful submitted by rlmorgan on June 13, 2014, 7:10pm This movie will make you laugh and cry. It is a good mix between the life of P.L. Travers which inspired the Mary Poppin's stories (the end is the sad part), and the fun story of the conflicts between Disney and Travers when the movie was made. Overall a good story and well told.

Rethinking a Classic submitted by ks1287 on June 13, 2014, 10:27pm My daughter is a huge fan of the movie Mary Poppins, and I was interested to see this film exploring the making of it. I really enjoyed both Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson in the lead roles, and was impressed by the back story provided. I did some extra reading on the topic and was surprised at how strongly P.L. Travers disapproved of the changes Disney made to her books. Even so, I have a much greater affection for the original Mary Poppins movie after seeing this one.

A Must Watch submitted by rmhawkins on June 15, 2014, 6:52pm "Mary Poppins" played a special role in my life and the life of my sister. I have watched it more times than I could ever count. I found "Saving Mr. Banks" especially moving because of my history with the source material, but I am sure anyone would find this film engaging and compelling.

Enjoyable submitted by adimarzo on June 21, 2014, 3:56pm Our family enjoyed watching this story of the making of Mary Poppins. Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson were wonderful as was the rest of the talented cast. Some of the themes were a bit beyond my 5 year old's understanding (hence the PG-13 rating).

Disappointing in every practical way! submitted by Smile1975 on July 21, 2014, 3:04pm Emma Thompson and Tom Hanks are delightful in everything that they do, but the movie- Saving Mr. Banks is not true to actual events. I love the movie Mary Poppins. I have not read the books, but this movie does not make me want to read the books, see the movie or even find out more information about the real people the movie portrays. Some true life events should not be retold as a "Walt Disney" movie; for a "Walt Disney" movie is wanting a happily ever after ending; which the true story is anything but that. Very disappointing movie. I do not recommend for adults or children; especially if you enjoy the movie- Mary Poppins.

Good submitted by Fishing Rainbow on August 29, 2014, 8:11am The movie was not my favorite but it was still good. I would recommend it for older audiences though.

Mr. Banks submitted by hcf on August 30, 2014, 10:31pm Not so much a movie for kids. I enjoyed it quite a bit (not a kid).

Saving Mr. Banks submitted by SBNB on June 24, 2015, 7:56pm Great movie. It tells a very moving story.

great acting submitted by Jackie77 on August 20, 2015, 7:19pm Very excellent acting by Emma Thompson. Very pinnicky lady mrs. Banks wants her mary poppins to stay EXACTLEY the way she wrote her. She finally resists a bit on certain aspects.

Good family movie submitted by toschag on August 4, 2016, 12:29pm A great piece on the backstory of Mary Poppins. A great portrayal of Walt!

movie submitted by dree411 on August 5, 2016, 10:26pm it was good

The REAL Mary Poppins submitted by purchasingqueen on August 31, 2016, 8:55pm Although fictionalized, this movie is based on the real people in P.L. Travers' life. I learned a lot and enjoyed the film.

magical movie submitted by avrogers1 on June 22, 2017, 11:47am Saving mr. Banks is a wonderful movie.

Magic submitted by jduffy12 on August 28, 2017, 9:31pm It helped to learn about Walt Disney

Saving Mr. Banks submitted by lstorc on August 6, 2018, 3:04am Superb acting and storytelling. It's always interesting to learn about the background behind some of the more famous movies.

Bittersweet submitted by granumm on August 11, 2018, 9:26am Excellent work and a beautiful film. It makes me a little sad to see the heartache that went into such a delightful movie as "Mary Poppins," but it's moving to see a glimpse of the story-behind-the-story.

dark, but not as dark as it probably should be, submitted by lisa on August 14, 2018, 2:28pm and touching

Walt would want his darkness kept out of it, according to it.

Alright submitted by c_zhang on June 29, 2019, 1:44pm The movie was not my favorite but it was still good. I would recommend it for older audiences though.

Saving Mr. Banks submitted by Varshini on July 30, 2019, 2:56am I watched this movie when I was in 3rd grade, and I didn't enjoy it very much. I watched it again recently and it was pretty good! Definitely not for kids. 4/5

Thompson and Hanks are great together submitted by RebeccaWittekindt on August 29, 2020, 10:35am Obviously Disney is portrayed pretty well in a Disney movie, but I could watch Hanks and Thompson together in anything. The supporting cast was also excellent.

Beautiful Movie submitted by MikkiMoscara on June 23, 2023, 1:49pm Highly recommended movie. It's really touching and Tom Hanks does a phenomenal job as Walt Disney. It's an easy movie to fall in love with and much better than I anticipated.
