When junior shipping mogul Josh Mallon comes too close to getting hitched, he and his best buddy Ace Lannigan run to the furthest point they can find on a map--Singapore. The first of the famous "Road" pictures starring Bob Hope and Bing Crosby as a team of irrepressible bachelors, the scenery includes Dorothy Lamour as the beautiful live-in housekeeper they bring home.

Bing Crosby in blackface submitted by willow on August 1, 2015, 10:06am Bing Crosby does a dance number in blackface, with a "native" woman in this film.

First in a Series submitted by KidBlue on January 20, 2022, 10:57am This is the first the seven "Road to…"comedies starring Bing Crosby and Bob Hope. The comedy is pretty funny.
As for the blackface - it's not blackface as it was traditionally done. It doesn't even look like traditional blackface. Crosby and and Hope are two ramblers who have wound up on an island. There is a feast for natives only, and they are poor and hungry, so they darken their skin to look Polynesian. I'm not making excuses, but the greater wrong here is the stereotypical portrayal of Polynesian native islanders. And that's only a small part of the movie. It's up to you whether you can enjoy the other comic scenes. I did, but with this caveat.
