Multicultural dystopia

This is an awesome, fast paced teen dystopia with a twist. The world has just barely survived the collapse of all technology, and those who are left are ruled by small warlords. In this world, Lozen is a monster hunter for four tyrants who rule a small fortress in the southwest. She has some extrasensory skills but more importantly, her upbringing by her father and mother in the wilderness as a member of the Chiricahua (portion of the Apache) tribe has given her the skills to survive without 20th century technology. The monsters are vivid, Lozen is a force to be reckoned with, and overall, I as a non-dystopia reader loved this book.
There is a continuing conversation about the lack of diversity in teen fantasy and science fiction-Joseph Bruchac steps in the gap magnificently with a heroine who is explicit about the importance of her inheritance and culture while you know...saving the world.
