Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, now with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they're plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and prevent her army from invading Earth. Their best hope lies with Cress, a girl trapped on a satellite since childhood who's only ever had her netscreens as company.

Great 3rd book in series submitted by KathyD on July 16, 2014, 10:35am Cress is a great addition to the continuing series that takes traditional elements from fairy tales and sets them in future earth being challenged by the evil Lunar queen. Following twists on Cinderella and Red Riding Hood in the first two books, this one uses Rapunzel, replacing the tower with a satellite (not equipped with scissors). It's fun to see how the characters from different tales get together. Although each heroine will probably end up with her true love because it's a fairy tale, the traditional plotlines are somewhat balanced by the heroines being a mechanic, pilot, and hacker. The heroes do include one emperor; the others are an AWOL pilot and mutated wolf/guard.

Make sure you read them in order-not enough background to follow if you start with this one. Final and fourth book in series (Winter) is planned for Nov 2015.

Cress submitted by Fevvers - STAR473 on August 6, 2015, 1:58am A solid continuation of the Lunar Chronicles. I liked that Cress began full-on science fiction with a very smart hacker trapped in a satellite. And yet it was a solid parallel to the trapped in a tower situation of the Rapunzel fairy tale.

Cress herself is a pretty interesting character, but she is not quite as well-rounded as some of the others, though there are moments that I wish could have been explored more. She gets swallowed up by the plot - and there is certainly a lot of plot happening in this one. I did enjoy all the action and the developments, but I would also have liked a little more development about the titular character and not as much repetitiveness.

Delightful submitted by kelleyc on June 22, 2016, 1:12pm Cress is a strong female lead in her own unique way. A great addition to the crew.

Great 3rd book, submitted by nsvinicki on August 8, 2017, 12:05pm This is the third book in Meyer's "Lunar Chronicles".

The third book in this series goes off-world - literally - to a secret Lunar surveillance satellite where our third main character, Cress, is imprisoned by Queen Levana. She's a master hacker and computer person, who Levana uses to get all of her information on Earthens. Cress is Meyer's take on "Rapunzel" complete with super long hair. I love how she weaves traditional fairy tale language and tropes into contemporary science fiction.

I had to press through this one, because I wanted to know how the series ends in book 4. There's a lot going on, but the pacing is a little weird and can fall into some typical angsty teen feels at times. Definitely worth it for the major plot points revealed, but skimmable.

Lovely Series submitted by clb89 on August 13, 2017, 9:51pm Cress is yet another Character we get to meet on Cinder's journey. I found her character to be just as intriguing as Cinder and Scarlet's story. Cress is a little more quiet then the others, so sometimes one may forget about her, but she is determined too.

Great Series! submitted by treechild on June 21, 2019, 1:32am This is the third out of the series, and Meyer again does a great job in only providing a wonderful story for this particular read, but in adding to the story universe. Highly recommend!

Cress submitted by c_zhang on June 27, 2019, 11:48pm I love how this adds to the world already built. Cress is an interesting character and brings a new element to the already engaging story.

Futuristic "retelling" of the several fairy tales submitted by jillpritts on August 19, 2019, 9:24pm As an adult I've liked this series. The heroines are strong, smart capable women, each book tells a different story, but brings all the characters together. Characters are disabled and the disability isn't a focus, just a part of who they are. I recommend this series and have enjoyed it. Borrowed them from my teen.

Perfect submitted by avgriffith on August 11, 2020, 3:57pm i love how this book was written. it had a lot of depth and i like how the group was split up in the book.

my favorite book of the series submitted by maizl on August 8, 2022, 10:43am I read these during middle school and recently reread them as an adult. Still love this series, and this book is particularly my favorite! Action-packed and well-written.
