"A novel that opens with a young man's murder on the day of the tumultuous 2007 election in Kenya, but then goes into the history of his family and of the splintered African nation around them--in scenes stretching back to a shocking political assassination in 1969 and the Mau Mau uprisings against British colonial rule in the 1950s"-- Provided by publisher.

One may need to prepare to read this book submitted by psgriffi on December 5, 2018, 3:11pm It would be helpful for readers of this book to know a bit of the Swahili language, and history & geography of Kenya as Owuor uses references to all liberally whether the reader knows anything about the subjects or not. Nonetheless, she's written some interesting & beautiful turns of phrase that caught me off guard.
