Fascinating Biography submitted by sdunav on June 16, 2014, 1:53pm A graphic novel biography that was on display at my library - I really didn't know much about Sanger so I picked it up, despite not really liking the artwork that much.

It was fascinating - and very well researched. There's a lot of misinformation on Sanger out there, and many quotes taken out of context, which Bagge goes into some detail about in an appendix. The appendix also had tons of photographs and notes about other people that Sanger was close to - her husbands (there were two), her lovers (there were many, including Havelock Ellis and H.G. Wells), and other activists like Emma Goldman. Sanger was an interesting character, full of contradictions and commitment. Also, she was very anti-abortion - and she believed that contraception was the best way to prevent abortion.

Absorbing book -- highly recommended! submitted by valeriemates on July 12, 2017, 9:39am I'm not usually enthusiastic about graphic novels, but this one was well-told and very absorbing. Sanger did very many things in her lifetime. She led a fascinating life, and made huge strides toward legalizing access to birth control in the U.S. and around the world. When she started, it was illegal to even share information about birth control! The end of the book is a huge section of notes that are interesting reading, and which makes it very clear that Bagge researched Sanger's life very carefully, to try to be as accurate as possible. He talks about which sources he used and why. He says that there is a lot of misinformation out there from people who hate Planned Parenthood and want to make Sanger look like a horrible person, so he wanted to set the record straight.

Anyway, I really enjoyed reading this book and I learned a lot about Margaret Sanger's life, so I highly recommend it.

(How I found the book was interesting: In the library's Summer Game, one way to earn points is by looking at book reviews that other people have written and marking them as "helpful" or "not helpful." I found this book when sdunav's review was shown to me to mark as "helpful" or "not helpful." I marked it "helpful" -- then requested the book!)
