Changes Perspective :( submitted by brielle on August 8, 2014, 10:55pm I really liked the first book in this series, "The Raven Boys," but the perspective changes in this book really threw me off for some reason. I can't recommend it.

Different perspectives done well submitted by steveiew on June 22, 2018, 11:28am I enjoyed getting to read the different perspectives written in this book. I think it helped to further develop the characters and each voice was unique. The questions of Cabeswater keep mounting and the quest continues.

Wow submitted by anacoluthon on August 18, 2018, 3:20pm I loved how this book developed Ronan's character further. I love all the boys and Blue, but he just might be my favorite.

I'll keep reading the series submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on June 22, 2019, 3:28pm A good book 2 of this 4-book series, but felt much more in the young-adult-genre than the first book did. This isn’t surprising… it is a YA book. As I’m definitely older than a young adult, my review should be taken with a grain of salt!

What I liked about the book is that it continues to be a smart mystery with good pacing and interesting main and secondary characters. The setting itself is complicated, well thought out, and integral to the story. Characters change and grow both true to who they have been introduced to be, but also in real response to the situations presented to them. They feel real. The magic in the story seems to have foundational rules that are solid, even if we are only learning some of them as we read.

What didn’t work as well for me was the mysteriously unknowable Mr. Gray. Not his function… that fit the story… but the man-with-no-history. It simply felt (to me) like a cheap trick that the author played to keep younger readers’ attention, and I think they’re smart enough that they didn’t need it. I also thought that the Raven boys felt pretty emotionally scattered for much of the book, and maybe tighter editing could have clarified their journeys a bit.

Nonetheless, still an excellent installment in the series, and I will definitely continue reading.

dream thieves submitted by qmomo on June 27, 2019, 10:03pm i really enjoyed this whole series and i think this was my favorite. it deftly combines variety of genres (and a lot of cars) into something unique, moving, action-packed, funny....there's a lot going on but instead of getting out of control it comes together beautifully. i cried at the end!
