A rousing read in a long series submitted by LibraryMaven on June 15, 2014, 3:50pm This is the fiftieth Magic Treehouse Book and the twenty-first Merlin Mission book. Though still a transitional chapter book, Hurry Up Houdini is at a somewhat higher reading level than earlier books. As always, the first chapter encapsulates the background of what the reader needs to know about the series, and so the book can be read out of order, though many readers will want to read the series in order. As Jack and Annie travel back in time to Coney Island to find the secret to Harry Houdini’s success, conflict is provided in the form of an argument between Jack and Annie when Annie begins to make decisions without consulting Jack. As readers of the series know, all ends well, with a successful completion of Jack and Annie’s mission. This mission highlights the importance of working as a team, as well as the importance of hard work, as provided by Houdini’s wife Bess. A short Author’s Note with historical information is included at the end of the book, as are instructions for a simple magic trick. Readers who are intrigued by the history of Coney Island or Houdini, or who want to learn more about magic tricks could be guided to further resources.

We Like Houdini submitted by kate.lynn.lewis on June 23, 2018, 6:58pm I like this book because it was suspenseful and magical; I really like magic.

Harry Houdini submitted by JY 2005 on August 26, 2018, 3:47pm Jack and Annie meet Harry Houdini, a famous magician.

Excellent Series submitted by TLW1998 on August 5, 2019, 9:45pm We love Magic Treehouse books. They are educational, and the characters are kind and sweet. The storylines are good, and I even enjoy reading them to my 4-year old. These books have just the right intensity to make you want to keep turning the page, but not scaring your kid. They are excellent adventure books where you learn cool facts along the way. And, they teach kids through Jack’s example to use books for reference and as a resource to help you. They definitely promote a love of reading by using books throughout their adventures.

I can not say enough good things about this series. It is the best children’s chapter book series that I ever ran across. We ended up buying the entire collection because we read them so often and again and again.

The Merlin Missions (later half of the Magic Treehouse series) are a bit longer and involve more magic and fantasy lands. They are great imaginative tales, and they are considered a little more advanced reading.

In this book (the 22nd Merlin Mission), Jane and Annie (siblings) travel to meet Houdini.
