In this inspired, genre-twisting film, Oscar-nominated writer/director Sarah Polley discovers that the truth depends on who's telling it. Polley is both filmmaker and detective as she investigates the secrets behind a family of storytellers. She playfully interviews and interrogates a cast of characters of varying reliability, eliciting refreshingly candid, yet mostly contradictory, answers to the same questions.
DVD, widescreen presentation; 5.1 Dolby digital.

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

A daughter interviews her father and siblings submitted by ccrose on August 10, 2019, 1:11am Sarah Polley is a filmmaker who wanted to interview her father and siblings about each one’s version of what it was like to be an ongoing part of her family. Her parents were actors so their lives had been filled with zany home life and drama. But what is important to Polley is her parents’ marriage and the choices they made. What unfolds impacts Polley, changing her life. A wonderful family with hard losses, hard truths to face. Use of home movies shows the young parents, her mother’s restless dreams. I recommend it if you’re thinking of making a film about your family’s relationships and using your family as the actors.
Be ready to hear conflicting versions of same stories. That is the most fascinating part: how each person tells truth or skirts around it. Also helpful if you’re considering DNA testing.

Stories we Tell submitted by libbyk on September 9, 2019, 2:29pm A good story, or all the good stories ... or are they all just stories?!

Stories we Tell submitted by lstorc on August 22, 2020, 7:14pm Stories we Tell is palpable but dull.
