Out of Touch
submitted by crazypockets on June 16, 2013, 4:11pm
This movie had a few touching moments, but overall, it seemed reallly strange. It's like it was written by a grandparent with no outside help of any sort for cultural references. It seemed like one big stereotype of what grandparents think of "kids today." I guess that's the audience they were going for, but as a younger person, I found a lot of the plot points to be really far-fetched. No one I know would want a house that announced their name to them every five seconds. I get that this was supposed to be funny, but it was over-the-top. And the whole Bette Midler and Billy Crystal singing thing....again, I get why they put that in there, but it made no sense in the context of the plot, and they needed to pick a better song for their voices. Awful.
I'm sure the grandparent/baby boomer generation will enjoy this, but as a child of members of that generation, I couldn't help feeling a little taken aback at this overt criticism of something that frankly, they created. The baby boomers invented self help and touchy-feely parenting, now they don't like the monster it's grown into, and rather than take responsibility, they criticize their children. At least that's the message I was getting from this movie.
OK submitted by arjlib234 on July 2, 2013, 10:55am It was better than everyone says it is, but it was just a movie like most other kids movies, and the ending was kinda predictable. Funny, though!
so-so submitted by fairytale on August 17, 2013, 9:51am This movie was just okay - not great, but not terrible either. Definitely wouldn't watch it again.
