This movie features the famous tapdance on the stairs of Bill "Bojangles" Robinson with Shirley Temple. This was the first interracial dance sequence in film history (!) and was cut out of the versions shown in the South. Hattie McDaniel is also in the movie, which presents a very happy view of life for post-Civil War African Americans.

Shirley Temple is charming as usual, but this movie is somewhat disturbing below the surface.
