Coming of Age Story
submitted by stoutr on August 4, 2014, 7:31pm
As he does in many of his books, Schmidt throws his young male protagonist into the fire and watches him grow up. Cooper struggles to deal with the death of his grandparents, his lack of any knowledge of his parents, keeping the dairy farm running all on his own, homework assignments he doesn't care about, and, as if that weren't enough, a coercive politician who seems determined to ruin his life.
Cooper must use all of his determination, hard work, stubbornness, and ingenuity to keep his farm, get to the bottom of all the strange things happening in his town, and figure out who he is, who he wants to be, and whom to call family.
