He's so good that I feel like I need to justify why this isn't 5 stars more than I need to explain why it is 4 stars. It's 4 stars because Brent Weeks tells amazing stories, winds threads together in intricate and fascinating ways, creates characters that are believable and keep you invested, and doesn't always take you where you expect.

I guess the only reason that this story is four stars instead of five is that this series feels like a "lighter" (pun only somewhat intended) storyline than, say, the Night Angel trilogy did. I really like the deep investment of a series that makes me dig in and work, and this one doesn't as much as some others. But your mileage may vary on that one. It is fantastic storytelling. It appears (via Weeks' website) that this will be a trilogy, and I have to say that as the middle book of a trilogy, it is wonderful. Too often the middle book falls down and not much happens, but not so here. This will be a great re-read.
