Amazing story of a life dedicated to elephant conservation submitted by andrea on August 29, 2013, 4:35pm Daphne Sheldrick has dedicated her life to rescuing orphaned elephants in Kenya. She has pioneered methods that not only kept them alive, but allowed the orphans to be completely physically and psychologically rehabilitated and returned to the wild in elephant families structured like the ones they lost. The book includes much of the history of Kenya and of the poaching problem that has decimated the elephant population. This story was especially meaningful to me, as I visited Daphne Sheldrick's home in Nairobi and met some of her orphans in 1994.
