Disappointing submitted by rimpopu on July 21, 2013, 9:20pm When a cat in a farm is woken up with a loud crowing of a rooster, he decides to do something about it. It so happens he knows spells and magic tricks. The next day all the farm animals find their voices mixed up - the pigs say cluck cluck, the hens say oink, the horse quack, the ducks neigh, the cow goes meow, and so on. The story is interesting so far although it is not clearly mentioned that the cat had cast a spell or that it had gone wrong. I had to explain it to my preschooler. The different animal voices even if mixed up and big bold illustrations could keep the interest of 0-4 year olds interested in the book. But it needs a lot of explaining as to why it happened, or what happens in the end as the story is a little unclear. I don't know why the author chose to write it in rhymes but does not make an effort to keep the rhymes even throughout the book. There are places where it seems forced, and some other places they don't rhyme at all. It kind of ruins the flow when reading out loud to children. The ending is a bit confusing as the animal whose spell was not broken seemed to speak fine just two pages ago! The book intends to be humorous but is kind of lost with all the animal voices and lost rhymes. If you are looking for any book that has animal sounds in it, you may want to read it but I wouldn't recommend it.
