channeling Le Carre?
submitted by camelsamba on June 25, 2019, 10:38pm
Elspeth is engaged yet again? Who has had more engagements at this point, Hamish or Elspeth?
Yet again I may be going easy on Beaton by giving this 3 stars, because I'm still on the rebound from *Death of a Valentine* (which was dreadful). All the gruesome deaths connected to a Russian oligarch make me wonder if the author was trying to channel Le Carré (e.g. Our Kind of Traitor). Similar to the wife who bounced from Brazil to Florida in the previous book, the psychopath children are dragged out too long in this one. With the cliffhanger characters appear in a future book? I suspect so.
But these are easy to listen to and available for download from our e-library consortium, so I keep going.
